Reports from CNBC.com and other US major news channel on Apple and Oprah partnership recently is hinting that Apple is finally making strides to challenge Netflix and Amazon Prime in the space subscription based video content.
This is a big push by Apple to create original content with the likes of Netflix and Amazon Prime whom are already penetrating the space with their own big budget production of original content.
“Together, Winfrey and Apple will create original programs that embrace her incomparable ability to connect with audiences around the world,” Apple said in a statement.
It is still unclear the direction Apple is taking this, however it is clear that original content is the aim here. Oprah will be joining the ranks Hollywood’s big names such Steven Spielberg and Reese Whiterpsoon to name a few that signed a partnership with Apple.
While original video content is not something new to Apple with the reboot of Carpool Karaoke and other video contents available in the Apple Music app, it is still ways behind the major players in this space.
We will need to wait and see how this plays out.
