After a long, long wait, the HTC Vive now has a release date : April 2016.

First announced back in HTC’s presentation at the Mobile World Congress in March, the HTC Vive is a collaboration between Taiwanese tech makers HTC and game developers Valve Software.

According to HTC’s blog, HTC have been busy distributing the HTC Vive Developer Kits to developers and content creators to create content that spans gaming, entertainment, medicalm education and retail. There will be a developer conference in Beijing on December 18th in which some of these contents will be previewed to attendees.

Aside from that, HTC will be launching the second generation of the HTC Vive Developer Kit at the upcoming CES and will be at expanding demo tours to various events such as The Sundance Film Festival, SXSW, GDC and MWC.

HTC is currently scheduling to ship another 7000 units to developers, after which the HTC Vive will be commercially available in April 2016. This release date means that HTC will just barely miss out on their targeted shipping time of the first quarter of 2016.
