Shortly after a few weeks of reporting the announcement of the Galaxy A8, Samsung Malaysia has finally made the device available yesterday for Malaysian users, making it one of the first Asian countries to be able to purchase the device itself at the price of RM1888, it does sound expensive, but what truly lies in this beautiful handset from Samsung isn’t going to disappoint you.
First of all, we all know that this is a super thin handset which Samsung has managed to squeeze in a 5.7-inch Super AMOLED Full HD display, a 16-megapixel and 5-megapixel main and front cameras both with a huge f/1.9 aperture, and a huge 3050mAhbattery at a mere 5.9mm slim body profile. In our previous report, we were actually quite disappointed that the device merely comes with a Snapdragon 615 processor but little do we know.
our friend over at GadgetMTech.com who have won one exact unit yesterday found out that the variant sold here comes with a more powerful Exynos Octa 5430 processor, clocking in at 1.8GHz for the big Cortex-A15 cores and 1.3GHz for the LITTLE Cortex–A7 cores, otherwise the phone maintains the same 2GB RAM and 16GB flash configuration, expandable via Micro SD card while the memory slot can be used as a secondary SIM slot.
On first impressions, the Galaxy A8 sure looks sexy and feels very premium on hand, while its back cover does looks a bit dated like some old mid-range Galaxy devices (especially the speaker grille next to the camera), at least it isn’t a fingerprint magnet like the glass back found on the company’s flagships, the phone comes preloaded with Android 5.1.1 with a less animated TouchWiz running on top, thus resulting a really snappy experience.
What’s the selling point of the phone? Apart from design, the camera’s huge f/1.9 aperture definitely tops the No. 1 reason to purchase the phone and we should expect on par quality with the Galaxy S6. The Galaxy A8 retails at RM1888 and is currently available on Samsung stores and authorized resellers.
