More than 16 million Nokia phones shipped in Q3 2017

HMD Global has proved to be a worthy new player in the mobile market in 2017. Adopting the Nokia branding in efforts to revive the once popular phone brand, HMD Global has launched a range of smartphones from entry level to flagship, including the comeback of the legacy Nokia 3310 in a renewed form. According to a report, over 16 million smartphones were shipped in Q3 2017.

The rough 16 million figure however is significantly contributed by the Nokia feature phones as compared to smartphones. A total of 13.5 million feature phones were shipped in Q3, whereas 2.8 million smartphones were sold. This makes Nokia (or HMD) the number one feature phone brand globally, and the 16th smartphone brand.

Nokia reportedly sold a total of 1.5 million smartphones in the first half of 2017. 2.8 million smartphones sold makes it nearly double the amount in half the time, making it a great improvement for the folks at HMD Global.

Nokia currently has a sole flagship known as the Nokia 8. The Nokia 2, 3, 5 and 7 are all very affordable devices on their own as well, while the Nokia 9 is set to launch next year with an impressive spec sheet.
